The untapped power of independent voters

WEDNESDAY 1/25/12- As our country's politicians engage in bitter partisan battles, focused on protecting their own jobs but not on doing the nation's business, and talk radio hosts who shout louder and shriller, it's no wonder that Americans have little faith in their government. But is America as divided as the politicians and talking heads would have us believe? Do half of Americans stand on the right and the other half on the left with a no-man's-land between them? Do you feel like you are in this group? Do you see yourself starting to move in this direction? In fact, forty percent of all American voters are Independents who occupy the ample political and ideological space in the center.

The "ghetto" app--is it racism?

MONDAY 1/23/12- On the surface, it sounds great. If you’re walking or driving around, your phone will alert you when you’re about to enter a high-crime neighborhood. However, it’s already being referred to as the “ghetto” app, and numerous civic groups are calling this bit of technology “stereotyping” and “discriminatory.”

Also, Steven Tyler has drawn harsh criticism for his Sunday performance of the national anthem before the Ravens-Patriots game. It seems some people weren’t quite prepared for Tyler’s rather forceful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

What you're not being told about that pipeline

FRIDAY 1/20/12- On Wednesday, President Obama rejected quick approval of the TransCanada Keystone Pipeline. The GOP says his decision kills 20,000 potential jobs, but is that just Republican rhetoric and political spin? Greg Palast thinks so, and is here to explain why. Greg is a BBC investigative journalist and national best-selling author, best known in the US for uncovering Katherine Harris' purge of black voters from Florida's voter rolls in the 2000 presidential election.

The plan by Calgary-based TransCanada Corp. would carry tar sands oil from western Canada across a 1,700-mile pipeline across six U.S. states to Texas refineries. Whistleblowers have warned that the safety software on major US pipelines is deliberately flawed.

Did Colmes put himself in the "hater" category?

TUESDAY 1/3/12- In a heated clash on Fox News, Alan Colmes appeared on air with Rich Lowry, editor of National Review. They were discussing Rick Santorum's recent surge in the polls, when Colmes brought up Santorum's infant son who died just two hours after being born. Colmes said, "Once [voters] get a load of some of the crazy things he's said and done, like taking his two-hour-old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple of hours so his other children would know that the child was real.”

Also, Santorum was asked a question about foreign influence on the US economy. He responded, “" I don't want to make black people's lives better by giving them somebody else's money; I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money." Is this an appropriate answer?
